Most of our travel teams train twice a week—one weekday session and one Saturday session—and play their matches on Sundays. Our Elite Teams have three training sessions per week—two weekdays and one Saturday—plus their Sunday games. The fall season typically runs for 11 weeks starting in early September, while the spring season also spans 11 weeks beginning in early April.

We recognize that convenience is important to our families, and because we live in such a robust soccer region, there’s no need for extensive travel at younger ages. Our U7/U8 teams participate in the WYSL Mini League, competing against local Westchester communities. Travel Teams playing in WYSL mainly stay within Westchester County, with occasional matches in Rockland, the Bronx, or Manhattan. Travel Teams playing in EDP may travel a bit farther upstate or into Connecticut, as well as the Bronx, Manhattan, or Brooklyn. Overall, we strive to minimize travel distances while still ensuring a high level of competition for our players.
-
At Greenburgh United, we carefully evaluate each player’s technical, tactical, and athletic abilities to group them with teammates of comparable skill. This ensures balanced team development and places our squads in the most fitting environment for fair, competitive play. Typically, teams begin in the WYSL, where they are placed in divisions matching their collective skill level. As certain teams progress and demonstrate the requisite ability, we transition them into EDP, continuing the same merit-based placement philosophy in an even more competitive setting. Above all, our roster decisions are rooted solely in soccer criteria—never location, personal connections, or other non-soccer factors.
-
Not necessarily. At Greenburgh United, we reevaluate our team formations each year to ensure players continue to be placed with peers of comparable skill. Every spring, we conduct tryouts and assessments for the upcoming season, which may lead to roster changes as players develop. Our objective is to foster a positive growth environment by grouping players at similar levels, resulting in the best conditions for both individual and team success.
-
We strive to accommodate as many players as possible. For younger athletes (U7 and U8), we can typically offer placement on a travel team. If they’re not yet ready, they can continue in our Pre-Travel Program for another season. For players (U9 and above), if a travel team is at capacity or more skill development is needed, we may offer a spot on our Practice Only Squad or in our Development Program. Ultimately, as a community-centric club, our goal is to place each player in the most appropriate environment to foster growth and enjoyment of the game.
