Coaches, Managers & Trainers

All programs are run by Greenburgh United and New York Red Bulls USSF & UEFA Certified Professional Trainers

Greenburgh United does not allow player parents to be either trainers or coaches.

Our parents are not involved with curriculum, team makeup, or playing time.

Coach/Trainer

In our Club, the two words are synonymous and all our trainers are professionally trained. Trainers are at all team practices and games.

Some Coach Responsibilities

  • Teaching the Club curriculum.

  • Bringing all practice and game equipment.

  • Managing all “on field” activities, including directing players during practices and games, team tactics, player substitution patterns.

  • The only person permitted to interact with the Referees. No player or parent may approach or makes comments to the Referee.

  • The Coach is NOT responsible for attendance or weekly communication with families.

Manager

Every travel team in our club will have a team manager. The team manager is a volunteer position and is usually a parent of one of the players on the team. Please see this document for a comprehensive overview of a manager’s responsibilities.

Some Manager Responsibilities:

  • Overall team communication

  • Notifying team of practice and game schedules

  • Keeping attendance of events

  • Registering for Tournaments

  • Managing ID Cards, lineup sheets, and medical release forms

  • Setting expectations of parents

Background Checks

Every GU trainer must take the WYSL background check and complete the Online Sports Training Program

This must be renewed every two years. To complete the required background check, follow these steps:

  • Go to this link http://usclubsoccer.sidelinesportsdoc.com/ to complete and pay via credit card ($5) the Training Program (Sideline Sports Doc). After 100% completion, you will be e-mailed a certificate. Save the certificate to your computer and upload in the designated Sideline Sports Doc upload on the background check screening application.

  • Go to this link https://www.safesport.org/ to complete the free Training Program (SafeSport Training). Instructions: Please send an email to SafeSport@usclubsoccer.org and receive an auto-reply with the link, U.S. Soccer access code, and instructions to take the course. (The U.S. Center for SafeSport and U.S. Soccer will not allow the code to be posted publicly.) After 100% completion save the certificates to your computer and upload the master certificate in the designated SafeSport Training upload on the background check screening application.

  • Go to this link https://usclubsoccer.sportngin.com/register/form/885736910 to complete and pay via credit card ($18) the background screening application.

  1. You will be asked to provide your certificates from both Training Programs to complete the background screening as WYSL is not linked to the API. The certificates must be provided to complete the application. Note: US Club Soccer Admin will be reviewing the certificates uploaded and advise the league if the wrong certificate(s) were uploaded.

  2. You must choose “WYSL – Westchester Youth Soccer League” as your “Club” (at bottom of the Club pulldown menu). DO NOT TYPE IN ANYTHING. DO NOT choose your actual club!! (If you do, you will not be credited.)

  3. Watch your e-mails in case the background provider needs to contact you regarding any questions they might have.

  4. You will receive a confirmation when the screening has been completed. No need to forward.

  5. You need to do it this way and in this order.

  6. Any questions, ask your club registrar. They can tell you if you have been marked “eligible” or not. This process can take up to ten days. You do not need to contact the League. This background check will be good for any affiliated US Club league/club for up to 2 years.
